Any time I think about the direction I enjoy when it comes to IT, I always come back to Infosec/Cybersecurity.
I’ve been down the help desk/support tech, sys admin, network engineer path already. I even had an offer to move into a network gig last year but I declined. Though security has always been an integral part of what I do, I haven’t yet had the opportunity to hold a position which is focused solely on security.
I’d like to change that!
I realize Splunk could be a huge part of what I may encounter when trying to move into SecOps, so I’ve been playing with an instance of it it in my lab and decided to pursue the Splunk Core Certified User credential to get my feet wet.
Even if I’m not using it in my current position, I feel it is a good foundation to have and can also help if I find myself in a SOC or any position that requires the use of Splunk or another SIEM.
Plus, pursuing certification has always helped me learn topics of interest in a structured way.
This should be fun.
