The IT community pretty diverse, no matter what your background or culture is, you’re sure to find someone with a similar background sharing their own IT experience online.
I find this amazing because for some of us, we may not have that same sort of experience with others in our demographic in the workplace. The be honest, as a minority in IT, I’ve often been the only one in the department, and sometimes in the entire building.
I can pretty much get along with, learn from, and work with anyone, that’s never been an issue for me. Respect is respect and as long as we have that, it doesn’t matter who you are or what your background is. However, there’s definitely something special about seeing others that look like you, that understand your struggles, sharing their experience and knowledge about IT.
Even if as nothing more than a reminder that “Hey, I belong, and I’m not alone”. If you’ve never had to experience being underrepresented in the workplace then this probably doesn’t seem like a big deal, but for those of us who experience this every day, it’s HUGE.
Anyway, Josh from KeeepItTechie is one of those leading the charge of online content within the IT space while at the same timer providing a voice and representation for those of us that understand what it is like to be a minority in this space.
I was honored that he asked me to come onto his show, as I’ve been watching his videos and tutorials as a fan myself. He’s a Linux ninja and also a professional database admin, so plenty of knowledge, tech, and geekery to share with the masses!
I wanted to share our discussions, excuse the fact that I disconnected midway through….I was able to get reconnected so we could finish.
Make sure you go check out Josh’s channel, and follow him on all the socials!
